This hybrid format combines a fair Swiss-system preliminary round with a knockout final for the top-ranked players. With 64 players, everyone first plays 6 preliminary rounds against opponents of similar strength – nobody is eliminated, everyone gets guaranteed matches. The top 8 players then advance to the knockout final, where the winner is decided in head-to-head matches. That's 199 matches in total: plenty of fair games in the preliminary and an exciting, clear final.
