What is a best-time time trial with 24 participants?

In this time trial, 24 participants complete multiple runs – 3 runs are recommended, but the count is configurable. Only the fastest valid time counts towards the ranking; slower valid times do not affect it. Unlike round-based formats, participants race against the clock individually, and the ranking is based on their valid best times.

With 24 participants and 3 runs each, there are 72 runs in total (24 × 3).

Time Trial - Best Time with 24 participants: how scoring works

Best-time scoring differs from the other time-trial variants in how the ranking is calculated: the combined variant adds up all runs, the average variant takes the mean, and the single-run variant scores one time – here only the fastest valid single time counts. In the 24-participant example with the recommended 3 runs each, that is 72 runs (24 × 3); the run count is configurable.

FAQ: Time Trial - Best Time

What is Time Trial - Best Time?

Each participant completes multiple runs, but only the fastest time is used for the ranking.

How many runs can I record?

You can record multiple runs per participant. Turniermeister still ranks them by their best time only.

Which sports is this suitable for?

Ideal for formats where several attempts are possible but only the fastest time should count.

Are live standings updated automatically?

The ranking updates automatically once a participant has completed and locked all scheduled runs. A participant with an open run stays off the ranking until then; participants whose runs are complete remain visible.

How long does a time trial with 24 participants take?

It depends on the number of parallel lanes. The estimate for 24 participants assumes the recommended 3 runs; the run count is configurable. At 15 minutes per run, pure running time is around 9 h on 2 lanes and about 4 h 30 min on 4 lanes – excluding start breaks.

How are ties resolved?

When valid best times are equal, participants share a place; the next place follows competition ranking (for example, 1, 1, 3).

How are DNF, DSQ and missing times scored?

Only valid runs count. Example with three runs: A records DNF, 1:00 and no time, B records 0:40 three times. A's only valid best time is 1:00, so B leads with 0:40. DNF, DSQ and runs without a time are not scored; a participant with no valid time does not appear in the ranking. While one of A's runs is still open, only A is deferred – other participants with completed runs stay on the live leaderboard.
