A championship (groups + knockout) with 12 teams combines two phases: in the group stage the 12 teams are drawn into 4 groups of 3 teams each, where everyone plays everyone. The knockout phase gets 4 teams: the group winner from each group. The title is decided there in direct duels. A total of 15 matches are played across both phases. The group draw is random; the qualifiers are seeded for the knockout round.
