How a double elimination bracket with 64 teams plays out: up to 127 matches across winners and losers bracket – every team gets a second chance.

In a double elimination tournament a team is only out after two losses. All 64 teams start in the winners bracket; teams that lose drop into the losers bracket. The undefeated winners-bracket champion meets the losers-bracket champion in the Grand Final. If the losers-bracket champion wins that match, a reset match follows; otherwise it is skipped. The format therefore has 126 to 127 matches, almost twice as many as a single knockout, while giving each team a second chance.

A double elimination consists of two brackets: in the winners bracket all 64 teams play out the first finalist over 6 rounds (63 matches). Anyone who loses once drops into the losers bracket for a second chance over 11 rounds. Including a possible reset, the losers bracket and Grand Final have up to 64 matches, or 127 overall; without a reset, each total is one match lower.
