A knockout (elimination) tournament with 16 teams runs over 4 rounds. In every round teams play in pairs – the loser is eliminated immediately, the winner advances. After exactly 15 matches the champion is decided. Because half of the field drops out each round, the knockout format is the fastest option for 16 teams: it needs far fewer matches than a league and is ideal when you want a clear winner in a single day. A balanced seeding keeps the strongest teams apart until late; if the team count is not a power of two, Turniermeister automatically assigns byes in the first round.

At 15 minutes per match a knockout with 16 teams takes around 2 h on 2 pitches and about 1 h 15 min on 4 pitches – pure playing time. Add extra time for breaks as well as setup and teardown.
More pitches mean more parallel matches and a shorter tournament. The first round has 8 matches – with 2 to 4 pitches a knockout with 16 teams fits comfortably into a single day.
