A multilevel knockout is a tiered KO tournament in which – unlike a classic knockout – no team is eliminated after its first loss. All 32 teams start in the main bracket; whoever loses a match moves into a placement round and plays for the next places. With the option "Play full consolation rounds", every team plays 5 matches and every final placement is decided exactly. With 32 teams that is 5 waves with 80 matches in total. Without the option, only the two best places of each placement group are decided; then not every team plays all 5 matches. Unlike a double elimination there is only one route to the title: whoever loses in the main bracket plays for placements, not for the win.

With 32 teams there are 5 waves in which all teams play in parallel: 16 matches per wave, 5 × 16 = 80 matches in total. No team is eliminated; losers move on to the placement brackets.

A multilevel knockout is a knockout tournament in which no team is eliminated after its first loss. Winners stay in the main bracket, losers keep playing placement matches for the next places. With the option "Play full consolation rounds" enabled, every place is decided at the end.
Turniermeister offers multilevel knockouts for 16, 32, 64 and 128 teams. The number of matches and the duration grow with the number of teams.
The losers of each knockout round form their own placement group, for example the third-place match, places 5–8 and places 9–16. By default, only the two best places of each group are decided. The option "Play full consolation rounds" plays every group down to the last place. The number of placements can be adjusted in the settings as long as no placement match has been played.

With 32 teams there are 80 matches in 5 waves (16 matches each). Pure playing time is at least 10 h with 2 courts and at least 5 h with 4 courts. Basis: 15 minutes per match, without breaks, changeovers or the award ceremony. The calculation assumes the option “Play full consolation rounds” is enabled.
In a normal knockout, half of the teams are eliminated after each round. In a multilevel knockout, losers stay in the tournament and play for the next places. With the consolation option enabled, every team plays 5 matches with 32 teams and receives an exact final placement.
