A championship (groups + knockout) with 16 teams combines two phases: in the group stage the 16 teams are drawn into 4 groups of 4 teams each, where everyone plays everyone. The best 2 teams from each group – 8 in total – qualify for the following knockout phase, where the title is decided in direct duels. A total of 31 matches are played across both phases. The draw can be seeded so that strong teams only meet late.

Pure playing time is the sum of the group stage and the knockout phase. In the group stage all groups play in parallel and the matchdays run one after another; the knockout phase follows. The values show pure playing time – plan extra time for breaks, setup and teardown.
